Rescue, Rehabilitation & Reintegration

This is the flag ship programme of USK over a period of time from parking boys and street girls. USK has transformed the programme to respond to most causes of streetism By influencing government policy on education . This took almost twenty years but has fruits embedded on the 2010 constitution and Basic Education Act - 2013 which make basic education pre-school to Form Four free and compulsory. The present Cabinet Secretary of Education, Prof Magoha, is even visiting homes in Kibera - Nairobi County for example to enforce compliance with 100% transition from Kenya Certificate of Primary Education graduates, All Assistant Chiefs and parents are ordered to ensure 100% transition to secondary schools.

3R (Rescue, Rehabilitation & Reintegration) : USK emphasizes advocating for Children's Right to Basic Education by emphasizing on Right to access, retention and compliance in all our areas of operation. While we use rescue through Associations and rehabilitate (at the
Place of Safety - Kitengela), we emphasize on reintegration to their families/communities so that children can go to school.

Enhancing rescue: The Association Model enhances removal of young children in the street back to their community/family and if need, be referred them to Kitengela for temporary place of safety as our team prepares them to be reintegrated to their families while giving opportunity for skills training based on the interest/situation of each child or youth. This is what has made the Government recognize USK as an effective reintegration organization and gave us funding.
